Disappointing Farmhouse

TL:DR We left after two hours. I messaged the host confirming an early check-in time. We arrived a half-hour early and the cleaning crew was still there. The downstairs bedroom isn’t ready since the sheets are in the dryer and the dryer is broken. We convince the cleaners to leave and use the upstairs bedrooms. The host’s warning about the steps to the upstairs bedrooms ought to be heeded. Neither my husband or myself, both very able-bodied persons, felt comfortable using them. They are uneven & the handrails are not fully secured to the walls. We abided by the host’s “no shoe” policy and found all our feet to be filthy & sticky. Other issues included an air conditioning unit on the floor in one bedroom, a belt and trash in the driveway, a nail clipper on the floor, window blinds were broken and unusable, & various cleaning items just in the kitchen. Washing dishes, we find a large leak in the kitchen sink, its “catch bucket” underneath is overflowing & the floor is soaked. Dishes were washed in the bathtub. In the tub we find wet rags from the previous user, & there is not a plug to allow for a bath for the small kids. I called the host, said he’ll have someone come out to take a look at the sink and dryer. We decide the issues aren’t worth staying, pack up and leave. Three hours after calling someone came out to address the sink and dryer. After messaging with the host about the cleanliness, he assured me a discount would be provided, it has not yet happened.

Cozy house, great location

Cute house in older, quiet neighborhood with conservation view behind. Convenient to grocery store, shopping and downtown Peoria. Kitchen and bathroom were well stocked with needed supplies. Beds were comfortable but on firm side. Communication with host was prompt and clear. We stayed a week and enjoyed our stay.

Short stay

Needs some curb appeal to match the cute interior
